Poliform's soft minimalism

Sep 8, 2021

Italian brand Poliform presents the 2021 collections in collaboration with two star designers, Jean-Marie Massot and Marcel Wanders. As always, the laconic furniture pieces are in keeping with the modern aesthetic of 'soft' minimalism. Despite the fact that the new models are made in a rather restrained style, each item is sure to become an accent in the living space.

The Gentleman range, designed by Marcel Wanders, has been expanded with bedroom furniture. While it doesn't directly evoke classic style, it looks elegant enough to live up to its name. The rounded, streamlined shape of the chest of drawers and nightstands, and the headboard that 'hugs' the base may remind you of the impetuous lines of the 1930s modernism and is sure to please fans of early to mid-century modernism.

'When I design a piece of furniture, I think of it as a child to whom I am mum and Poliform is daddy,' comments Marcel Wanders. - And for me, as a 'mum', it's important to guide 'dad' wisely. Poliform has a very special genetic code and when it is combined with my creative side, the end result is something that no other brand could have. We create an object that when you first look at it you say, 'Oh, it's definitely Poliform, and it must be the work of Marcel'."

French purist Jean-Marie Massot doesn't just paint new things, but always offers a new vision: economic and philosophical. Saint-Germain's modular sofas, for example, are fully in line with the French maestro's vision of the relationship between the environment and the interior. Linear and angular models (as well as compositions of more complex configuration) are the embodiment of simple natural forms, relevant regardless of time.

The Le Club model is inspired by the voluminous leather armchairs in which gentlemen of the last century relaxed and worked. Masso has managed to reinterpret one of the design archetypes in a modern way: he has lightened the silhouette of the object, abandoning the solid, solid base. The seat seems to float in the air, and the whole model looks as if it is simply folded by a wave of the hand from a pair of cloth.

In addition, Masso has extended the Poliform collection with the Seattle chair, as well as the Koishi and Orbit tables.
