Modulnova: Interior arranged around the kitchen

Kitchen in the heart of the home? Easy if the manufacturer is the Italian factory Modulnova.

One customer approached interior designer Nurit Geffen with an unusual request. He wanted a house where all the space was organised around the kitchen. The design had to take into account the needs of a family with three children, where the mother has a disability which limits her mobility. At the same time, the head of the family wanted a stylish and spacious interior with nothing to do with a nursing home.

The solution was to build a three-level mansion on the outskirts of Tel Aviv. Transparency and clarity - with accents in blue - were the motto of the project.

On the ground floor, the architect has created an open and light 80 m² room, containing the kitchen, dining and living areas. The austere and practical kitchen has been designed by the Italian factory Modulnova, based on MH6, finished with Caltec Lava D98.  The worktop and skylight are in the colour Basalt Black (Neolith). The graphite hue of the furniture contrasts with the whitewashed walls, bringing the kitchen closer to the living area, making it feel more like a living space. In fact, the ground floor is designed as a studio where the wife can stay for long periods without being cut off from the rest of the family. "It was necessary for her to have a kitchen in this space and a view of the rest of the floor - the patio and the garden with the pool," comments the architect.

In order to separate the kitchen from the dining area, the Modulnova factory designed a four-metre-long island, around which a sufficient number of guests can sit. Magis chairs and lighting fittings by Moooi and Flos complemented the ambience.
