Exclusive reports from the Milan Furniture Forum. And today the focus is on the Italian factory Glas Italia, a top producer of designer glass furniture.
The factory was set up in 1970 in Macerio, Brianza, an industrial area in Lombardy, which was made famous by the astuteness and foresight of enlightened entrepreneurs, furniture makers. Thanks to them the phenomenon of "Italian design" started to develop and became known all over the world.
The Italian factory Glas Italia develops and uses production technologies, which help to implement the original ideas of designers in creating mirrors, shelves, tables, tables, screens and other items of furniture.
For Glas Italia factory famous designers such as Ettore Sottsass, Shiro Curomata, Alessandro Mendini, Mario Bellini, Michele De Lucchi, Jean-Marie Masso, Riccardo Dalizi, Philip Stark and others have created their furniture. Nowadays original objects are made for Glas Italia by such stars of modern design as Patricia Urquiola, Piero Lissoni, Tokujin Yoshioka, Ronan and Erwan Burulleki, Nendo studio and others.
For each new piece the factory creates new production technology, so that brilliant ideas of designers can be fully realized in such a pure, noble material as glass.
Tinted, varnished glass allows you to reach such a level of expressiveness of furniture that it becomes the dominant feature of the interior. The quality of the glass itself, which is tempered and manufactured using state-of-the-art equipment, makes it very strong and resistant to mechanical stress. The company's colour palette is available in over 90 different shades. Glas Italia produces a very wide range of products: coffee tables, console tables, coffee tables, shelving units, display cabinets, libraries, tables and chairs, as well as armchairs. Unique glass can withstand high loads and is very reliable.
A number of items are designed with special lightweight glass. Sometimes the use of invisible steel fixings makes it appear that the furniture is made entirely of glass. We also offer a huge range of mirrors, doors and interior partitions.
Note that in addition to the GLAS ITALIA stand itself, the brand's glass furniture is also present in the DeLightFuL and Before Design: Classic projects by Italian Ciarmoli Queda Studio. For example, you could see the Commodore glass cabinet by Piero Lissoni, the Atlantis table by Lorenzo Arosio, the DR JEKYLL AND MR HYDE container system of coloured clear glass by Piero Lissoni and the Prism glass armchairs by Tokujin Yoshioka in the Design Pavilion and in a short video by Matteo Garrone.
By the way, it was the Commodore cabinet, designed for Glas Italia by Piero Lissoni, that won the "Best piece of furniture" category at the previous iSaloni. The completely transparent showcase cabinet is as elegant and simple as ingenious: the fluted and striped print on tempered glass, the only decoration on the body, is combined with shimmering mirrored shelves. The effect is accentuated by the interplay of different glass shades and textures. And instead of handles small round holes are used. This product perfectly reflects the aesthetics of the past coupled with contemporary trends.
