Riva 1920: The magic of natural wood

Sep 8, 2021

Unconventional design and total eco-friendliness are the main advantages of Riva 1920 furniture. The project in the photo is fully furnished with furniture from the Italian brand, which means that the focus is once again on natural wood.

For the kitchen, a set with the laconic name La cucina has been chosen. However, of more interest is the Newton table made from rare kauri wood. This raw material comes from New Zealand, where it has long been preserved untouched in swamps (from 5,000 to 50,000 years, according to various estimates). As a result, the material has a unique structure which has been painstakingly preserved and enhanced by the Riva 1920 cabinetmakers.

The masters of the factory believe that wood is a living material, which continues to live and breathe even in the furniture, and therefore they process the wood by hand and never use formaldehyde or any other chemical dye in the production.

We also find another iconic piece from the factory in the project - the Molletta bench. The object in the form of a giant clothes peg was designed by Michela and Paolo Baldessari. Looking more like a sculpture, it has already found use in the lobbies of office buildings, the corridors of museums, coffee shops, outdoor spaces and everywhere else where there is room for informal conversation in an unconventional setting.

Almost all of the furniture is characterised by clean lines, light, concise forms and a natural colour palette. The project on the photo is made in the style of country-chic, but the main highlight is still the handiwork, thanks to which each item is truly exclusive and unique.
